Maria Antonopoulou
Principal Investigator

Maria Antonopoulou, is Associate Professor of Pollution Control and Environmental Protection Technologies, in the Department of Sustainable Agriculture, University of Patras.

Her scientific focus is on: a) Advanced oxidation technologies for the removal of organic contaminants; b) Development/application of analytical methods for the determination of contaminants and their degradation products in environmental matrices and treatment processes; c) Toxicity and environmental risk assessment of contaminants; d) Transport and fate of pollutants in environmental matrices.

She has published > 110 publications in international peer-reviewed high impact scientific journals and books that have received > 3800 citations and has an h-index=35.  She has communicated > 85 communications in national and international conferences and workshops.

She has been participating in various national and EU research projects, and she holds one patent.

In 2019 she has been awarded with L’Oreal Unesco Award 2019 for Women in Science.

She acts as a reviewer for > 30 international journals.

She is member of two scientific associations and organizing/scientific committee and acts as a research proposal evaluator in Greece.

She has conducted research in international laboratories: Department of Chemical Engineering, Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering-Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials, University of Porto, Portugal & Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (DChEE), Environmental Engineering and Science Program, University of Cincinnati (UC), US, Department of Chemical Engineering, Federal University of Paraná, Instituto Tecnológico de Aguascalientes, Mexico. She is the supervisor of 4 Ph.D. theses and more than 20 undergraduate theses (Integrated master).
